Increase in Oxidation Resistance of MAR M-509 via LA-CVD Aluminizing

Due to their excellent mechanical properties, Co-based alloys are one of the main candidates replace Ni-based in high temperature application. Knowledge about oxidation resistance alloy MAR M-509 and extent its aluminizing on is limited. Therefore, present study, an aluminide layer was manufactured by low activity chemical vapor deposition (LA-CVD) M-509. Aluminized uncoated were investigated terms kinetics during isothermal cyclic at 1000 1100 °C. Material as-cast after exposure analyzed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), thermogravimetry (TG) glow-discharge optical emission spectrometry (GD-OES). Obtained results allowed for elucidating degradation mechanism including nitridation process carbides It found that significantly decreases factor 2.5 1.5 °C respectively. Moreover, suppression identified case aluminized until occurrence breakaway layer. also proposed further increase can be successively achieved thickness.
